Carrying Another Day
photography, 2020
With the epidemic that's happening and the societal collapse that has been shown to the forefront by the COVID-19 virus, moving or even measuring a day comes as a chore. I want to show how the mask or the idea of the mask as also a carrier of symbols, personal stories, and time. My photographs are objects that I interact with on a daily basis, with leaves from our Cacao Tree, measuring tape, an amulet or anting-anting pendant that signifies health and protection, to a belt in line with the Filipino saying "mag higpit ng sinturon" that means to be frugal especially in times like these, a falling King piece of a wooden chess that my family usually plays on downtime during this lockdown, to my self-portrait, taken at our leaking garage.
