The first London Biennale Satellite Project in Las Vegas was initiated by artist and curator, Jevijoe Vitug, now based in New York City. Artists were invited to contribute home-made arrows to the “Eros Arrows” performance event, held in August 2010 at the Contemporary Arts Center in downtown Las Vegas.

In 2011, London Biennale founder David Medalla visited Las Vegas and described his experience, “I love all of Las Vegas: the hotels and casinos, the surrounding desert, the university, the art galleries. Above all I enjoyed meeting the artists there.”

For the “Rainbow: 7 Colors, 7 Artists” Satellite Project in 2012, Vitug coordinated with artist and curator Matthew Couper to produce a large-scale event held at Pop Up Art House in Henderson, NV. Seven invited artists in turn invited collaborating artists to create a night of performances and installations.

The 2014 “Maps, Mazes & Mysteries” Satellite Project, also coordinated by Vitug and Couper, took place over two nights and across multiple venues, utilizing outdoor spaces and artists’ studios. The addresses were a mystery, only provided on receipt of an RSVP. The audience members became part of the works, participating in a conga line procession, contributing to a group collage project, reading randomly selected stories, traversing an outdoor maze and climbing through a multi-layered string matrix.

The 2020 London Biennale Satellite Project for ‘Masks, Mirages and The Morphic Mirror’ in Las Vegas was coordinated by Jevijoe Vitug, Matthew Couper, Laurence Myers Reese and JK Russ. Due to restrictions and safety issues surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic, artists were asked to present their artworks within the perimeters of an online format.
